I visited our local air ambulance base to hear more about their plans to move the National Children’s Air Ambulance to a new home in the Harborough District, close to the Catthorpe Interchange.
While I was there, I saw first-hand the incredible speed and professionalism of the team. The siren went off during my visit, and within just two to three minutes of the red telephone ringing, the helicopter was airborne and heading out on an emergency call.
It was a powerful reminder of the vital role this service plays. The team can reach Oadby and Wigston in around 10 minutes and Market Harborough in around 12 minutes, bringing urgent care to people when every second counts.
This is an extraordinary, life-saving service, but it comes at a significant cost. Each mission costs around £2,500 to deliver, and the charity relies on fundraising and public support to keep its helicopters flying.
It was fantastic to meet the team and see the dedication behind this incredible service. I will continue to support their work and their plans to expand their presence in our area.
