I’ve had a further update from Oadby & Wigston Borough Council regarding the site many of you have contacted me about.
Thank you to everyone who has responded to my SURVEY- the response has been huge, with over 1,100 replies. The overwhelming majority of residents are opposed to what was being suggested.
I’m pleased to report that the Council has confirmed it is holding an investigation into the ongoing works. They tell me that investigations are confidential, so information is limited at this stage.
However, there are two important points that residents should be aware of.
First, the building is currently designated as a public house. That means any change of use would require full planning permission - it cannot simply happen without the Council’s approval.
Second, there is currently no application before the Council for a change of use to a mosque. And given the serious parking issues in the area, it is hard to see how any such proposal would get the green light.
I will continue to stay closely engaged with the Council and press for further updates. As soon as there is more to report, I will share it.
