New figures out today show that unemployment is the lowest it has been since 1975 - and employment is at a record high.
Meanwhile Harborough, Oadby and Wigston is among the constituencies with the lowest unemployment rates in the whole country.
In June 2017 there were about 490 unemployed claimants in the constituency, or about 1.0% of the economically active population. That’s less than half the national rate of 2.5%. Only about one in ten constituencies has a similar or lower rate.
Neil O’Brien said: “The new unemployment figures are extremely positive and Harborough Oadby and Wigston continue to do particularly well.”
“Unemployment in Britain has fallen to the lowest level in over 40 years and that is one way in which current government policies are working for the worst off. But of course there is still more to do to make sure everyone gets the chance of a job and more to do to boost productivity and raise wages.”
