I have taken concerns over Leicester’s expansion plans to Parliament, leading a Westminster Hall debate on proposals that could significantly extend the city’s boundaries into surrounding areas, including Oadby and Wigston and parts of Harborough.
Next month, the Government is expected to set out plans for local government reform, but there is growing concern locally about the impact of the proposals.
I secured the debate to ensure local voices were heard ahead of any decision.
I was joined by fellow Leicestershire MPs Peter Bedford and Ed Argar, who also raised concerns about the plans.
I highlighted strong local opposition and warned of the potential impacts, including higher council tax, loss of local identity and decision-making being moved further away from communities.
Following the debate, I said I will continue to oppose the plans and make the case for protecting local communities and their identities.
