I met with residents of the new estates off the Northampton Road to discuss their ongoing concerns about pollution and a foul odour coming from a pond and associated watercourses adjacent to their newly built homes.
Residents contacted me after reports that human waste may be being pumped into the stream from a nearby trailer home park and they are understandably extremely concerned about the situation, having seen nappies and the like in the stream, which does look and smell really bad.
What has been most frustrating is that no single organisation or authority seems willing to take responsibility. Residents have been passed from one council team to another, with the Environment Agency and councils appearing to shift responsibility rather than provide clear answers or take action.
Residents deserve transparency about what has happened and what can be done to fix this.
I have written to the Environment Agency, Harborough District Council, West Northamptonshire Council, and Leicestershire County Council to meet me to work for a coordinated response and urgent action to ensure that this matter starts being taken seriously.
