Neil has voiced frustration at Severn Trent over the ongoing disruption caused by repeated water main failures on Blaby Road in South Wigston.
On April 21, 2026, a burst water main forced the closure of Blaby Road- a key route between South Wigston and Wigston- for around a week, causing significant disruption for residents and commuters.
The closure led to substantial congestion on surrounding roads, as traffic was diverted and drivers sought alternate routes. Although the initial issue was repaired, the water pipe failed only four days later, resulting in a further road closure and a repeat of the same traffic problem.
This situation is simply not good enough. Closing the road once for an initial water pipe failure is understandable, but a second failure in the same pipe just four days later is unacceptable.
I have written to Severn Trent seeking clarification on what measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future and to make sure that when things do go wrong, it will get fixed in a quicker manner.
