Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston has led a local tourism summit in Leicestershire as part of English Tourism week, hosted by Kilworth House Hotel in Harborough.
The summit was organised in conjunction with Leicestershire County Council, and included representation from across the private and public sector to discuss the local tourism and hospitality sector. The meeting was also attended by a representative from Visit Britain, to provide a national update.
Neil said, “This was an incredibly useful meeting, where we discussed a range of issues and opportunity facing the industry. It was good to have such a mix of businesses and stakeholders on the day, ranging from Foxton Locks to Glen Corse Golf Club.
This will now feed into the work Leicestershire County Council are leading on regarding place marketing, to ensure that Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, and the wider City and County are well placed to showcase the brilliant offering we have.”
Sarah Johnston, Sales Manager at Kilworth House said, “It was a pleasure to host the meeting and discuss the tourism and hospitality industry across Harborough and wider Leicestershire. It was encouraging to see a diverse range of businesses on the day, to hear about their experiences as well as looking at how we can all work together to enhance the experience of those visiting our area.”
Neil concluded, “The sector makes a massive contribution locally, not only in terms of jobs and economic output, but also to our quality of life and standard of living. It was great to have representation from local and national public sector partners also, who acknowledged this significant contribution.”
