As you may be aware, the plans for a new prison next to the existing HMP Gartree were unanimously rejected by local Councillors on the Harborough District Council (HDC) Planning Committee.
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are now appealing the decision, something I asked them not to do as this fell outside the scope of development within the adopted Local Plan, and is not a suitable location for such a new prison. I recently spoke out against this in Parliament, which can be found here. A copy of my objection letter to the Planning Inspectorate can also be found at the bottom of this page.
An appeal will now take place in October, and I would encourage residents to submit comments as part of this process. Please do this even if you have submitted comments as part of the initial planning application with HDC.
You can do this via the following ways. Please do this by the 1st August. Previously this was listed as the 27th August, but the 1st August has been confirmed by the Planning Inspectorate.
- Emailing: Leanne.Palmer@planninginspectorate.gov.uk - quoting reference APP/F2415/W/22/3300227. Please also copy gartreeaction@gmail.com
- Online: https://acp.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/ViewCase.aspx?Caseid=3300227&CoID=1048704
- Writing: Planning Inspectorate room 3/26, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6PN. Please include your name, address and the appeal number (above) and send in 3 copies of everything you are submitting.
If you would like to submit a letter in writing, but do not have access to a photocopier/printer, I am happy to help with producing copies/printing and sending them in a batch to the Planning Inspectorate.
Please pop these through the letterbox of my constituency office: 24 Nelson Street, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 9AY. Please also ensure your name and address is included on your letter.
