We have recently had the great news that the Government will invest a staggering £450 million in upgrading Leicester General and the Royal Infirmary.
The investment will mean:
- A new Maternity Hospital and dedicated Children’s Hospital at the Royal Infirmary
- Two ‘super’ intensive care units with 100 beds in total, almost double the current number
- A major planned care Treatment Centre at the Glenfield Hospital
- Modernised wards, operating theatres and imaging facilities, and
- Additional car parking
Neil says: "This huge investment is brilliant news, and means we’ll be getting some fantastic new facilities locally."
"I have been banging the drum for this relentlessly, most recently when the Health Secretary visited Leicester. It is great to see this plan we have been campaigning for finally becoming a reality."
Kettering General is also going to benefit from a £46 million investment to create a new Urgent Care Hub, which will imprrove accident and emergency services.
These investments in our local NHS follow the creation of the new St Lukes in Market Harborough, and the successful campaign by Leicestershire MPs to save the Childrens Heart Unit at Glenfield Hospital.
Neil says: My son was born in a local hospital and good NHS services are a priority for me. I'm glad to see funding for the NHS increasing and will fight to make sure we improve social care and keep good local NHS services.
